Comet
users can develope their own pages locally on their own computer, then
transfer them to the Comet Web Server using an FTP program (File Transfer

a variety of locations. A few examples of FTP programs and places to find
them are:

This
is the page the server will display to those requesting the www2.cecomet.net/yourusername, www2.cecomet.net/yourusername/directory name/ or www.yourdomain.com site. It should integrate all your text and images which must also be transfered to your directory or sub-directories on the Comet server to work appropriately. You can also sort out your picture files into subdirectories as long as you put the right http path in. CGI
scripts will be available shortly for counters and java-enabled pages.
MS FrontPage extensions are currently not supported. If you have difficulty
setting up your page, either call (1-888-702-6638) or e-mail technical
support (techsupport@cecomet.net)
for assistance.
For Advance Users of Domains with access to a cgi-bin directory, the following sites may help you.
Transferring
Files:
Most current
HTML editors support FTP. The following settings will work under all known
FTP clients, but some FTP programs will require some fields, but not others-
it depends on the FTP program: Remember you can log into other sites and update them as long as you have the login name and password and the right settings. You still dial CE Comet with your account. In fact you can get into any webspace on almost any server including the other local IP's as long as you know the settings. Each IP is different. I personally have access to a number of servers while log into my personal Modem Madness account.

ftp://www.yourdomain.com
If you do not set the complete path with your username,
or use the default settings for the Domains,
DO NOT CLICK BACK TO ROOT OR USE THE UP ARROW
TO LOOK AROUND OUTSIDE OF YOUR DIRECTORY,
You may even be charge with a Computer Crime,
Your House Search, and your computer confiscated by the COPS,
SO BE CAREFUL!
How Comet treats it's Customers, a Must Read!
There is no PRIVACY on the Internet especially on this server.
You also may loose the ability to send E-Mail to Friends and Customers
if Comet banned your return E-Mail Address or Addresses.
Important
Note:
Make sure
your main home page is titled "index.html". And I would reconmend that you make sub-directories or folders to keep things sorted out. Usually most FTP transfer programs have that function. I use a number of them for my web site. As an example all my links are in a folder called links on my Domain. just remember that the names of the folders have to be exact, upper case, lower case, and spaces. Spaces need to have a %20 in the http address. I ran into this problem when I set up several websites under a subdirectory system with spaces...That took me a week to figure out why Netscape would not workand IE worked when an http link was put in with spaces.. My Olive Lodge and St Peters website was an example when I used Comet as my ISP. And as in the main home directory you should use a index.html in lower case if you want a default html.
Remember you only have 5 megs of space so you should be able to store about 100 HTML pages if you reuse graphics.

I also recommend a real Good Book from your Local Book Store
called "CGI Programming with Perl 5 in a Week"

this has a CD with lots of GOODIES!
I will add more later.
Guest Books are available from
Guestworld.
Counters are available from
LBI Net
and
from PrTracker.
and
from Countmaster
These tools do not require the help from CE Comet but may require that you use an ADD Banner of some sort.
I have used these products and find that the counters are usually ok
and Guestbook is the most popular Guest Book on the Net...
If you are a linux user, or have windows95 and do not want to download WS_FTP, you can use a text-based ftp client. Text-based ftp clients have been around for years, and will be around as long as there is ftp. There should be a respectable comp uter knowledge for the use of this method. If you do not feel that you are computer literate, please get a graphical ftp client. If you have windows95, you will have to first get a msdos prompt up on your screen. If you are a linux or other unix user, you will have to get the unix prompt. After you have the dos or unix prompt, you will need to type in the command:
ftp www2.cecomet.net
You will see....
