WS_FTP via Modem Madness
FTP Explorer via Modem Madness
Remember you can log into other sites and update them as long as you have the login name and password, and the site will allow FTP from outside Internet Providers, and the right settings. You still dial Modem Madness with your account. In fact you can get into any webspace on almost any server including the other local ISP's as long as you know the settings. Each ISP is different. I personally have access to a number of servers while log into my personal Modem Madness account.
Remember Modem Madness gives you 40 Megs of Domain server space or 10 megs of Members homepage space. That is enough to store hundreds or more of HTML webpages and graphics...if you are careful and reuse graphics. The servers are Cobalt's and are a Linux OS. More info can be found here.

CGI is available on both servers to Domain owners and users. The cgi and pl scripts can be used for counters, forms, Guest Books and other things that make a page look FANTASTIC! I will add more on CGI later.
For domain users, any directory name will work and for local users, any directory EXCEPT cg-bin will work. Local Users: DO NOT USE cgi-bin as a directory, it will cause problems and cause all local users to loose the ability to use cgi scripts! I personally would use /cgi or /bin for the scripts.
I do have a cgi script counter page located here that may give you some ideas!
Remember index.shtml as the default HTML name in every subdirectory. You can use index.htm or index.html. The defaults are index.htm if not there, it looks for index.html, if not there it will look for index.shtml in that order.
If you do not use an extention of .shtml on any of your pages you cannot use any of the Echo Directives on that page.
This is the page the server will display to those requesting the www.yourdomainname.com or www.yourdomainname.com/directory name/ or for local users www.madbbs.com/users/yourmembersname or www.madbbs.com/users/yourmembersname/directory site. It should integrate all your text and images which must also be transfered to your directory or sub-directories on the Domain or locla users site to work appropriately. You can also sort out your picture files into subdirectories as long as you put the right http path in.
If you have difficulties setting up your Domain or local Members pages, call 483-2483 for Jamestown or 753-3816 for Mayville or e-mail technical support on Domains and Local Users Pages (webmaster@madbbs.com)
for assistance.
I also may be able to help you on getting your site operational or problems resolved. You can e-mail me at webmaster@bagpipes.net or click on Frank's Radio to get my local phone number serving your area.
Other Off-site Counters are also available from
LBI Net
and
from PrTracker.
and
from Countmaster
You might even look at some Java Scripts at

If you do not want to use a Guest Book that works using CGI Scripting
There are several sources for Guest Books Below
The Best Guest Books is available from
Guestworld
Another Very Good Source for Guest Books and Counters is from
www.bravenet.com Bravenet Web Service
These tools do not require the help from Modem Madness but may require that you use an ADD Banner of some sort.
I have used a number of these products and find that the counters are usually ok
and Guestbook is the most popular Guest Book on the Net...
Just remember you are dependent on the Net for these counters and Guestbooks to work,
so if a link on the net goes down, so does your counter, but that usually is not a big problem.
More information may be found here on FTP into your Domain. or for Members Webpages Click here!
Just copy the above code and paste it to your note pad and save it as index.htm or index.html. You can also edit the code for other HTML files, it is not just for your index, I use it also for re-directs from another site, good for when you move a site, or when you are updaing an existing site from htm or html to shtml, just re-edit it and go. If it is from another url, put the whole url in including http where the index.shtml is. The size is so small, from 90 to 150 bytes, this is not a space hog. Then rename your index.htm or index.html to index.shtml and you are all set to go.

The first two Echo Directives listed are the best directives you can use on a page.
The Clock Command, This will tell the time and date, if the server clock is right!
<!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL"-->
The Real Back Button, This will take you back to your real last page.
Just add your graphics button or use the listed command
Back To <a href="<!--#echo var="HTTP_REFERER"-->"> Your Last Page</a>
Just copy and paste, and it will work as long as you use .shtml on your page.
You can also use the INCLUDE Directive, and you can find info here from BigNose Bird.
There is also another area at BigNose Bird that will help you out with this.
And Yes, I like "BigNose Bird" they have great help areas.
I am personally using this on several of my pages... It is an easy way to use the same set of graphics over again by using one command. It also makes it easy to fix a link or adding to a link bar by only editing 1 file instead of many files.
As a note: Looking at the source of my pages will not help you figure out INCLUDE Directives.
