Erepa Grotto Pipes and Drums

October 2011

Last month I mentioned what a well deserved break September would be for the boys, but wow was September anything but a break.  The month started with the 90th Annual Spartansburg County Fair.  Sparty is always a great event.  Never too hot, never too cold, with a parade route just long enough for the guys to work up a thirst that it's inevitably quench at Ashley's Pub immediately following.

Once we put the pipes down it seemed there was an massive list of work to be done.  The following weekend we were in front of Wal-Mart on upper Peach collecting donations for Dentistry for Disabled Children, one of the charities we sponsor that offers free dental care to disabled and less fortunate children.  Captain Molar and the Tooth Fairy even made an appearance passing out Halloween themed tooth brushes to the kids.  All in all it was great day raising almost $400.

Things quickly went from outdoor fun to indoor work.  The Saga Club where the band practices and which also serves as a banquet hall for parties, wedding receptions, etc was in need for a facelift.  Some of the guys in the band shared their talents and within days all the lights and ceiling tiles were replaced, the whole place was painted, and everything is looking great.  It's dedication like that, inside and outside the band which has made the Grotto great for the last 63 years.

October is gonna be a riot.  Kicking off the month is the Edinboro Homecoming which start's off bright and early at Buffalino's World Famous Keggs and Eggs.  Followed by the Edinboro Parade which was thankfully moved back into town, and concluding the day with a pub tour of some of the Boro's finest.  Later next month we'll be proud to play for the Grotto Monarch at the Monarch's Ball and will conclude the month, as always, with the club Halloween Party.  It's been a great parade season, but I'm sure we're all glad it's coming to a close and we can get rolling on learning new tunes and marches for next year.
