Erepa Grotto Pipes and Drums

November 2011

November's upon us and the cold weather is finally here.  Not like at Edinboro's Homecoming last month which was a record high in the 80’s....in October.  Normally Homecoming is marked by fresh frost in the morning and freezing rain in the afternoon.  We're not complaining though, we'd much rather march in 80 degree temperatures than 30 degrees.

Edinboro started off bright and early at Buffalino's World Famous Keggs and Eggs.  The warm weather seemed to attract an even bigger crowd than usual and all the piping hot food was exactly what the band needed before the long day ahead.  Next was the Homecoming Parade.  A first in a few years for the band, now that the parade route was back in town and off the college campus.  It was a little longer than expected but the crowd kept us going, especially down the final stretch where the streets were packed with cheering students and Alumni of the Edinboro Fighting Scots.  As always we ended the parade with a little pub crawl, hitting up the Empty Keg, the Edinboro Hotel and finishing up at Fat Willie's (formerly the Copper Coin).

Pipe Major DJ Flaherty with his brother, Tenor Drummer, Mike Flaherty.  Edinboro Homecoming was Mike’s first time wearing “Full Dress” with the band.

If you haven't seen what Fat Willie's has done with that place you need to check it out, what a difference!  The day ended, the boys were tired and thirsty.  Thank goodness our Pipe Sergeant invited us back to his Edinboro homestead for some well needed refreshments.

October also marked the annual Halloween party at the Saga Club.  No pictures were available at this time, but boy I wish there were.

There was a deer hunting a hunter, a "chicken cord on blue," a couple of clowns, and even an appearance by the Iotola of Rock and Rolla.  It was a great time as always and a good break from the hefty piping schedule for the guys and their ladies.

The Erepa Grotto also had the Annual Monarch's Ball this month.  Great to see those old guys still cutting a rug on the dance floor.

November brings Veteran's Day.  The band will be playing at the Marine Corps Reserve Station on November 12th at 11:00 AM.  It's always a nice ceremony, feel free to come and bring the kids.  Shhh, don't tell anyone but a certain Band President may be celebrating his 50th Wedding Anniversary that day too.
