Joining the Band

Joining a pipe band is not something everyone dreams of growing up.  For the unique few with the desire to pursue such a feat, the Erepa Grotto is here for you.  The band could not thrive without new members and our doors are always open to those who are interested.  The band makes every effort to keep the investment cost to a minimum.  There is no charge for lessons, the band supplies the complete uniform and can offer band instruments to those who do not wish to purchase their own.

The only initial cost for a student piper is for the “practice chanter.”  The band supplies practice chanters for $100.  This practice pipe allows the student to learn the basic of piping on a small, quiet instrument before upgrading to a full set out Great Highland Bagpipes.  The average student requires 6 months to a year on the practice chanter before receiving a set of pipes.

Similarly drumming students begin on a drumming pad.  This inexpensive, and once again, quiet practice instrument allows the drummer to learn the basics before using a full sized snare or tenor drum.  Drum students also require a few months on the drumming pad before being promoted to a drum, but past drumming experience can decrease this time greatly.

In either case, the greatest investment required of a student is time.  Weekly lessons and daily practice are required for a student to be advanced from a practice instrument to the full sized equivalent.  Like the Band Motto states, the greatest quality a student needs is “Dedication.”
